Gramonnati Sansthan was founded by Dr Arvind Khare and his wife Kalpana Khare, who took inspiration from Dr Rajnikant Arole. During early years of medical education, Dr Khare had visited a world renowned experiment in community health programme conducted by Dr Arole and his wife Ms Meble Arole at Jamkhed in Ahmadnagar district of Maharashtra. Dr Arole motivated Dr Khare to do medical practice like social service.
Dr Khare was so influenced by their work that he decided to start the work in his own native block Kabrai in Mahoba district. Further motivation came from Dr Bhartendu Prakash, head of Vigyan Shiksha Kendra, Atarra, in Banda district. Thus Gramonnati Sansthan was formed in 1983 by a group of like minded people believing in principles of democracy, human rights and social development of the most vulnerable sections of the society.
Starting with just a few villages Gramonnati Sansthan has during the past 30 years emerged as one of the most respected organisations in Bundelkhand region. It has several achievements to its credit.
